After the full model change in the year 2000, all the Impreza World Rally cars in the WRC adopted the GDB as their base. At that time, many prestigious European manufacturers started participating in this World Rally car field. The Impreza had been advancing and getting better as it competed with these very strong rivals in Europe. The GDB-based Impreza took the WRC Driver's championship crown in its debut year, 2001, driven by Richard Burns. In 2003, Petter Solberg also won the world championship in an Impreza. SUBARU boasts a total of 47 WRC wins as of September 2007, more than all of the other Japanese manufacturers combined. Within this tally of 47 victories, 46 were in various incarnations of the Impreza. By now, the Impreza is acknowledged as a world-class sports sedan by rally fans all over the world. In the Group N category of the World Rally Championship (P-WRC), contested by mass-produced cars, the Impreza has been champion-winning car driven by respective P-WRC champion in each year since 2003. |
