Round two of the Polish Rally Championship, "Rally Lotos Baltic Cup" in Gdansk, was held from 5-7 June. This event was the first of two gravel rounds planned for this year on the Polish Rally Championship, and for Subaru Poland's factory driver, Kajetan Kajetanowicz,it was only his fifth rally on this type of surface.
On Saturday proceedings got underway with some hazy sunshine, but there was also a big scare for the Subaru Poland team. Having misjudged a corner halfway through the opening stage, Kajetanowicz was unable to avoid hitting a ditch head on. His latest Subaru Impreza was heavily damaged but luckily the Polish crew was able to make it back to service.
Kajetanowicz commented "I'm delighted to find out just how strong our car really is! We took off and hit the ditch hard with the nose of the car. The radiator was damaged along with the whole front end, including chassis and bodywork, but despite this big impact the Symtech Racing mechanics made the car as good as new again at service without going over the permitted time limit."
Throughout the rest of the rally Kajetanowicz kept up a good pace in order to finish the opening day in sixth place. On day two, the team changed the car set-up, allowing Kajetanowicz to increase his confidence whilst improving his times. The Subaru Poland Rally Team eventually finished the Rally in fifth overall, with third in Group N.
The next round of the Polish Rally Championship, round three takes place at the Karkonoski Rally, from 11-12 July 2009.
